Scaling Sustainable Seating Innovation
The opening of Scottish Leather Group’s new BioPRO foam facility in Glasgow marks an important step in strengthening our manufacturing capability for more responsible automotive seating materials.
The dedicated 75,000 sq. ft site has been restored and transformed into a specialist manufacturing and engineering hub for BioPRO, our protein based, recoverable moulded foam developed for premium interiors.
Located close to our main leather manufacturing operations, the facility aligns key areas of expertise across material development, engineering and production.

This environment supports closer collaboration between teams, improving efficiency and consistency across interior programmes. It also enables BioPRO to be produced at scale for our automotive partners, without compromising the comfort, durability and quality expected of luxury interiors.
The new facility allows foam design and production to sit alongside decades of leather expertise, reinforcing the vertically integrated offer we provide to our customers. Bringing these capabilities together supports a more connected approach to interior development, from early material innovation through to final performance requirements.

Nicholas Muirhead, CEO of Scottish Leather Group, commented:
“Our new BioPRO facility brings design, engineering and production teams together in one location, strengthening collaboration and accelerating innovation. Producing BioPRO alongside our core leather operations reinforces the integrated approach that we offer our automotive partners.”
Originally introduced for aviation applications by our sister company Muirhead, BioPRO’s expansion into automotive is supported by this new manufacturing capability, helping us respond to evolving expectations around sustainability and performance.
