Supporting tomorrow’s design stars with the Peter Horbury Fellowship Award

Bridge of Weir Leather partners with Car Design News and the Royal College of Art on new Peter Horbury Fellowship Award 

In June this year, the automotive industry lost one of the car design greats: Peter Horbury. A true visionary and inspirational talent, he was admired and respected by all who knew him – and a much-loved friend of Bridge of Weir Leather. 

Over the last 30 years, our team worked with Peter on the interiors of iconic models at Volvo, Aston Martin, Ford, and Geely Group. It was a pleasure to have known him and to have supported him on so many projects. As well as being an incredibly gifted individual designer, it is widely acknowledged that Peter was also a superb mentor, an expert who truly encouraged young talent to flourish.

In his honour, Bridge of Weir is partnering with Car Design News and the Royal College of Art on an inaugural award, which will give the winning student a £5,000 bursary to help in their studies.

Horbury studied at the Royal College of Art, and the Peter Horbury Fellowship Award is open to first and second year full-time bachelor degree students from the RCA transportation design course. The winner will be selected by course head Dale Harrow and the RCA faculty – with the prize giving taking place at the prestigious CDN People Awards on 7 December.
